We live in Pittsburgh, and the weather here is ALL OVER THE PLACE! This winter has been SO COLD, & it's scary taking a new born out into the low temperatures. I purchased this Cozy Cover from Amazon for $25 as the temperatures started to really get cold probably in October it was!
As a new mom, I was so worried about her being too cold. They say if your cold your baby is cold... and I am ALWAYS cold! One night after getting in from the in-laws, I got Nicolina out of her car seat and she felt really warm. We took her temperature and she in fact, had a low fever. This was the first fever she had so of course we freaked. It wasn't high enough to panic and take her to Children's ER, but enough to cause concern, so we scheduled a pediatrician appointment for the next day. Of course, she was literally fine, with no temp what so ever. Her doctor explained, while it's very important to make sure baby isn't too cold, its just as important to make sure she's not too bundle & hot.
My husband was so right, YES I said it, he told me she's probably just too hot. I had a hat, gloves, layerings of clothes and a blanket on her. Our doctor said she probably has a closer body temperature to Joe than me, since I'm always cold. And boy was she right, Nicolina is always so warm. Joe calls her his furnace
So this is why I seeked out the Cozy Cover. Because she's been little enough to take everywhere in her car seat this winter, we have a few light jackets but when we take her out, the Cozy Cover keeps in enough heat that we don't have to bundle her all up in layers. Just her normal inside (may I mention always adorable) onesie and pants combo with a nice warm fuzzy blanket that we can take out if she's getting too warm.
The Cozy Cover also was great for keeping out the snow, rain, & blocking wind while going in and out of places. After my maternity leave, I went back to work full time, so that meant braving the morning frost to get her to grandmas everyday. It was also nice to have on her car seat during flue season because it kept direct contact from some germs (so we think right?). We were at her doctors a few times, & would close her little "door" if we heard a kid hacking up a lung in the waiting room. (This was something my mom would always scowl over, as a daughter of a doctor. And now look at me... oh nooooo, I'm becoming my mother!) It also prevented toys from falling out onto the ground, and let us give her privacy so the cute old lady at the grocery store wouldn't get too close to her.
Funny story. We were in Walgreens, and Nicolina's laryngomalacia makes her make these loud noises, almost like a pig, or we compare it to my in-laws chunky Pomeranian's breathing. Anyways, it's this loud breathing sound. So her "door" is shut and we are grabbing a few things, and the stares we got were halarious, as if we were smuggling an animal into Walgreens or something.
So I would definitely recommend the Cozy Cover for any Moms-to-be, expecting in the summer, fall or winter! Put that ish on your registry! Check out where you can find them below!
