Nicolina has Laryngomalacia, which is flappy, basically extra skin over her airway (above the vocal chords) that causes loud breathing. It sounds like she has a cold sometimes. It's worse when she's laying down, very excited or upset, & sometimes after a bottle (you know that coating milk puts in your mouth or throat?).
This has recently, also become a small obstacle in eating. Nicolina LOVES food, she's obsessed. She stares at anyone who is eating, watching it from the plate to your mouth. It makes you feel so bad. She has loved every food that we have introduced to her, starting with avocado!
When we started puree's we put breast milk in it to make it more watery than usual to transition. We started with avocado, ironically at Miaya's! Naomi was sitting in her high chair about to have some herself. We were going to try some that weekend as her doctor gave her the go-ahead on starting to! So Maiya mashed it up real nice and I fed it to her! She was a bit unsure at first, what to do with it. I continued that week with the avocados, to make sure she had no kind of reaction to them. Avocados unfortunately aren't good to pre-prep them for the week because of them going bad, but it's perfect for lunch when one is too big to eat yourself! You share!
Next I made squash!
I'm working on sharing my recipes with you guys. I'm trying out the Kiinde system for storing puree's and will inform you guys more on my experience it! I'm waiting for all of my items to get delivered! A co-worker turned me on to this system, as she was offering me her storage bags for it! I saw the box (with the different ways it can be used) and instantly was intrigued!
After the squash, we tried sweet potatoes. The doctor recommended to try to start off with foods that don't taste so sweet and "good" shall we say. AKA veggies! But after the sweet potato, we then tried bananas! I figured I could then mix the squash & sweet potatoes that we had portioned in the freezer, with bananas. A store-bought banana didn't seem too bad until, I realized like an avocado, it goes bad quickly and isn't ideal to send to the grandparents for the week. So we tried the Gerber bananas that my mother in law had gotten for her! This is so nice to split a banana with a portion of the frozen veggie, it mixes things up for her!
Next she tried peas, then green beans, and currently we are having brussel sprouts! I can't wait to try some fun fruit combos in the Kiinde system pouches I can just freeze and give to her as a pouched puree. They will be so easy to take to the zoo and on the go this summer!
So with her Laryngomalacia, we haven't tried any solid like foods or chunky purees just yet! I know Nicolina can't wait! We see her ENT in May and will find out a little more on how we should go about introducing more solid foods to her!
